I’m not kidding when I say that e.v.e.r.y single person that I served these pastries to, told me that they are delicious. They also asked me how I made them. The internet is full of different types of recipes but this is how I prepare them.
You will need
For the sweet ones:
One sheet of puff pastry
I like to use the Pepperidge Farm ones, but you can use whatever puff pastry you prefer. They are easy to find – I think any big supermarket has them- and they come frozen. You can keep them in your freezer and use them whenever you like. There are 2 sheets in every package (as written on the box).
*You can also make your pastry dove but that will take more time.
One brick of cream cheese
I like the Philadelphia cream cheese but you can use any brand you desire. Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature (for that you can let it sit for 30 minutes outside the fridge before starting).
One tablespoon of vanilla essence
3 tablespoons of sugar (any kind)
Whenever I make these pastries I use both strawberries and blueberries because I like how this combination tastes. You can use a variety of fruits like peaches, raspberries etc.
For the salty ones:
One cup of shredded mozzarella
Of course you can make these with other types of salty cheese like feta, american, provolone etc.
Five slices of shredded turkey breast
I used some thin slices of the Sara Lee Low Sodium Honey Roasted Turkey Breast that I previously shredded using a knife.
Take the dove from the fridge and let it cool for about 30 minutes.
- Use a rolling pin to roll the dove until you have a thin sheet (do not overdo it though). If you don’t have a rolling pin you can use my “trick” using a bottle (because I am fancy like that – I post recipes on my blog but I don’t have a basic rolling pin, lol).
- Cut the dove into squares like this one:
3. You will need to have a triangle shape:
4. Cut the edges like this:
5. Then fold the dove as shown in the pictures below:
This is how your puff pastry should look after following all the steps:
Now you can fill it with the cream cheese (that you previously mix with the sugar and the vanilla essence). Then add the fruits you love. I used just strawberries.
Get your tray ready by placing a sheet of non stick parchment paper and arrange your pastries leaving some space in between them (in the oven they will “puff” – no pun intended).
Preheat your oven at 350°F or 175°C (for my friends outside the US).
Bake this beauties till they have a tint of golden brown. Ready!
Follow step 1, 2 and 3 from the sweet pastry step by step guide.
Fill every triangle shape dove with the mozarella and the turkey breast.
Coat them with the egg that you previously beat.
Bake them at 350°F (175°C).
Let them sit in the oven for 10 minutes or until you see that they are ready (you can check your oven from time to time and see if your pastries turned golden brown).
When they are ready this is how they should look like
I like to eat these goodies with some spicy salsa. Yummy, absolutely delicious!
